María Soledad Funes Argüello, Coordinator of Scientific Research, UNAM. Dr. Soledad Funes is a cellular biologist and researcher at the Institute of Cellular Physiology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She earned her B.Sc. in Biology and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from UNAM, and completed two postdoctoral fellowships at Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. Her research focuses on mitochondrial biogenesis, particularly the mechanisms that guide mitochondrial proteins into their target organelle, as well as how mitochondria interact with signaling pathways that regulate the selective degradation of cellular components and influence cellular longevity. She served as Director of the Institute of Cellular Physiology (2021–2023) and currently holds the position of Coordinator for Scientific Research at UNAM.
