Description
Sudden cardiac death is the number one cause of mortality. Therapies for its prevention include pharmaceuticals, surgery as well as implantable devices. Computer modelling is becoming increasingly important as a tool for developing drugs, surgical procedures, and designing medical devices. However, no software is available which can adequately address these needs. Such simulations require a great deal of computer resources.
CARP is a virtual heart simulator under development. This workshop will bring together the developers, users, and industrial partners in order to chart the future of CARP, both immediate and long term. Outcomes from this meeting will be features to add, new mathematical and computer techniques to reduce run the simulations, and discussions with academia and industry regarding how CARP can be used in their R&D.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
