Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "PIMS Mathematical and Statistical Graduate Education Roundtable" workshop from May 21st to May 23rd, 2010.
Graduate students play a vital role in post-secondary institutions, and their training and support constitute a large and important role in mathematics and statistics departments. Different universities often face similar problems, but solutions are not often shared between universities, partly because there is no forum for discussion of graduate education in mathematics and statistics. To address this problem, we are holding the PIMS Mathematical and Statistical Graduate Education Roundtable, which we hope will help to establish a dialogue between faculty and graduate students in PIMS universities.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
