We're allowed to check in at any time after 16:00, but please try and do so before 17:00, so that we can start the kickoff meeting at 17:00!

Joel will provide an overview of the facility and explain why the number one threat is bears. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

We will provide a brief overview of the current AppCensus infrastructure: • SQL database layout (Irwin) • Lumen (Primal) • Sawdust (Joel) • Android instrumentation (Primal) • FS instrumentation (Joel) • Monkey environment (Irwin) • Cert pinning (Primal) • Vagrant (Serge)

We'll walk somewhere in town for a group dinner (TBD).

A brief introduction to BIRS with important logistical information, technology instruction, and opportunity for participants to ask questions.

During the rest of the day, we will split into breakout groups to tackle AppCensus infrastructure todos. We will spend ~30 minutes coming up with a list of todos, and then splitting up into groups. Suggested topics: • Virtualization • Website features (e.g., layout, search ordering, etc.) • REST API • Sawdust improvements • Logging experimental conditions • Copy-editing website text • Monkey to ape • Using static analysis more

We will split into small groups to tackle the problems previously discussed.

We will provide an overview of current research plans, including updates on progress: • Covert channels paper (Joel) • 3rd Party Attribution (Primal) • GDPR Study (Serge) • Privacy Policy Analysis (Serge)

As a group, we'll brainstorm future research projects, now that everyone should have a feel for how the infrastructure is working. Suggested topics to discuss: • Law review article • Developer survey of bad practices • Bespoke ad blocking and DNT enforcement • Version history • IP geolocation

We'll break into smaller groups to discuss future research plans, ideally coming up with concrete action items to pursue in the long term.

2-day workshop participants are welcome to use BIRS facilities (Corbett Hall Lounge, TCPL, Reading Room) until 15:00 on Sunday, although participants are still required to checkout of the guest rooms by 12 noon. There is no coffee break service on Sunday afternoon, but self-serve coffee and tea are always available in the 2nd floor lounge, Corbett Hall.

This hike is optional, and we'll try to be back by 16:00, so that those flying out that evening have enough time to get back to the airport.
