Description
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Convex Integration and Paradoxical Shapes" workshop in Oaxaca, from August 30 to September 04, 2020.
The Banff International Research Station will host the Convex Integration and paradoxical shapes workshop. Convex Integration, an abstract and powerful theory in mathematics, recently allowed to establish deep connections between different fields such as fluid mechanics, geometry or even origami. This workshop will gather experts from across the world with background in those fields with the aim of developing and exploring the connections through the lens of Convex Integration, both from the theoretical and applied point of views.
New avenues of research resulting from this meeting could potentially lead to the discovery of new paradoxical shapes as well as the development of practical tools allowing for effective computations.
The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT). The research station in Oaxaca is funded by CONACYT
