Participant Testimonials

Apr 28 - May 03, 2024

This was one of the most enjoyable and stimulating workshops we've ever attended. This workshop was a great opportunity to think about how we can improve our teaching across the curriculum. It was great to be able to make new connections, including a diverse collection of international participants, and to reconnect with old friends in a beautiful setting. These teaching-focused BIRS workshops are very impactful, and I hope to see more of them in the future. Finally, I must point out the amazing job done by the organizers of the workshop in putting together such an excellent event.

The BIRS workshop Building and Enhancing Mathematical Reasoning was particularly useful and enjoyable. My mathematics education background is centered in critical education theory in postsecondary mathematics, and the landscape of research in Mathematical Reasoning was new to me. Through this workshop, I have been able to learn the scope and thrust of research in this active area. This opens up new avenues of research and investigation for me. Additionally, I expanded my network of colleagues. A group of newly formed collaborators is already working on a paper based on our work which began as a working group at BIRS. Importantly, the workshop also focused on the human element, and created a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
