Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the “Operator Algebraic Quantum Groups: Structure, Dynamics, and Geometry” workshop in Banff from November 30 to December 5, 2025.
The concept of symmetry plays a vital role in virtually every branch of mathematics. Symmetry not only describes the shape of an object but also holds a significant place in advanced mathematics and physics. Symmetry has even facilitated the prediction of the existence of previously unknown subatomic particles, which were later confirmed to exist.
More recently, it has become evident that comprehending the symmetries of complex mathematical structures requires a more adaptable concept of symmetry, known as 'quantum symmetry' and `quantum groups'. Initially, it took some time for scientists to embrace this notion of symmetry. However, it is now abundantly clear that it leads to profound new insights, creating unexpected connections between various aspects of modern mathematics and physics. The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers specializing in quantum symmetries and quantum groups who are working at the intersection of these profound connections.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada’s Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Alberta’s Advanced Education and Technology.
