Description

The Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics will host the "Descriptive Set Theory, Borel Dynamics and Borel Combinatorics" workshop in Hangzhou, China from October 25 to October 30, 2026.

The workshop focuses on descriptive set theory, particularly the new directions of Borel dynamics and Borel combinatorics, and their applications in other areas of mathematics such as ergodic theory and dynamical systems. Other than the usual format of research talks, the workshop will also include tutorials, discussion sessions, and problem sessions to allow full exchange of the lastest developments and ideas, to foster new collaborations and interdisciplinary interactions, and to train and mentor early-career researchers.

The Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) in Hangzhou, China, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta Technology and Innovation.
